Touching on most topics relating to the performance horse, Dr. Loving provides a good handbook for the horse owner. She devotes 40 pages to "performance feet" and includes the obvious areas of laminitis and navicular syndrome as well as shoes that are too small, hoof cracks and a few words on pads and wide-web shoes. The most interesting sections dealing with performance are on conformation (which covers movement and gaits), conditioning and nutrition. Dr. Loving is a prolific writer who spends a good portion of her professional life educating the horse owner.
